First Day of School Mini Survival Guide

Approximately five more days to the very first day of School. (in about two hours) Here's a little list of what you should be expecting on that important day.

You reach school. If you're on the bus, and you don't know where to get off, follow other blue pinafore-clad girls until you reach school. If you're not sure if they're from St. Nicks or not, check their socks and school crest.

You enter the gates, see a flurry of people around. It is still dark, and you feel lost. Firstly, secure the location of the canteen. Once you see it, go up to the Family Lounge, the place with lots of blue plastic chairs. And then look to your right. You will see the bridge linking the Primary block and the Secondary block. Walk across the slab of concrete. Upon reaching the next block, walk down two flights of staircases, and then you should be able to find your classrooms.

You walk in. You see unfamiliar faces, and everyone is in clean, starched uniforms. You feel small. You try to find an inconspicuous seat, and here we suggest that you try not to sit at the front row unless you want to get called on first for self introductions. :) Observe the whole classroom and its people. What they're doing, what's your first impression of them, and keep that in mind. A few minutes later, your PSLs walk in. They're bright and cheery and confident, and start to chat with you. Everyone in the room stays quiet, until the speaker crackles on and calls all students to the track.

You follow the PSLs, who hold up wooden signs with your class name on it. Keep your eyes on that carefully. Once on the field, you'll line up according to index number, in one straight vertical line. Take note that there might be a few grass flies flitting about, but they're harmless and you don't have to squeal and yell when one comes near you. :D

The whole Secondary One cohort will be introduced to the whole school, along with the Primary Ones. New members of the staff will be shown and acknowledged, and then the Principal and Vice Principal will send you on your way to Orientation!

Orientation will mainly be games and self intros. Remember all your observations of your classmates, and now try to see if your first impressions are right. Try and be friends with people whom you think you might get along with. She might very well be your next best friend! Though there isn't much hope of gaining a best friend on the first day of school, you should still try. :D

During recess, have a good time! Try to sit with people in your own class, and if you find that you haven't found anybody to sit with yet, go sit by yourself, it's okay. Eat to your fill, because you probably will be galloping around after recess with your PSLs. :D

There might be important announcements your form teacher might make. Bring along a small notebook with you, and jot those down.

School's over. You suddenly find yourself lost and struggles to find the gate you used to enter the school. Do not try to follow a fellow Sec One, because she's most probably lost too. Try asking for directions, or following where the main stream of other girls go with their bags. If you're really lost, try looking for the canteen or the field. These are BIG BIG venues, so you can't miss it. Street 13 gate is nearer to the canteen, and Ave 2 gate is nearer to the field.

And wah la, you've survived your first day in SNGS. :D

This is just a rough guide of what's going to happen. We're not sure if it'll really happen to you, we're sketching it based on our own experience. Have fun, anyway. :)

Questions or opinoins to the tag board! :)

May peace live in your heart,

St. Nicks Girl (1)
