Dear Sec Ones of 2009,

First of all, I want to wish you all the best in surviving St. Nicks. Though seriously, there won't be many serious problems, because we're not the only ones that're going to help you. You're gonna have all your other jie jie men, and the PSLs, fellow classmates.

You'll make new friends, have fun, study a bit. And on the way make sure you don't lose yourself, be sure of who you are, never ever give in to peer pressure. We don't know what might happen next year, but we sure know it's going to be the last year we're going to spend in the old St. Nicks campus for a long while, so treasure all you've got.

If you ever feel lost, you can come to UGGSS for help!

Secondly, we'd like to thank all the juniors who'd replied to our tags and supported this blog, gave your feedback, added us on msn, thanked us for what we're doing. For me, I've learnt a lot through this blog, seen different people's reactions, felt happy, grew a little more confident of setting this up. You guys rock. Thank you too.

Both of us have been amazed at how much UGGSS worked for all of you. We first created it to help new juniors survive, but it turned out that new friendships forged on this blog, and existing St. Nicks girls begin to reminiscence on all her past years in St. Nicholas as she reads our survival guide. We both hope this guide will continue to dazzle and influence everyone that chances upon this. :)

We know as your work load gradually wraps you up like a cocoon, you'll all forget to visit this blog, and very soon this will be neglected, either by us, or by you. But we won't be sad, because gradually you'll emerge from your cocoon as beautiful butterflies, with nobody to cut your cocoons open prematuredly, because St. Nicks do things thoroughly and makes sure you grow in the right direction.

Banish all doubts and fears away, dear mei mei, because new friends will find you, and even if you're pretty much a loner in class, perhaps you'll find someone too.

Less than two days left to School. Loosen your belts, iron your pinafores.

Let the new year begin.

Yours Sincerely,

The Guide Writers '09 (St. Nicks Girl 1, St. Nicks Girl 2)

Subjects (and how to sleep discretely in class)

OK. It's probably too early to drone on about which subjects are nice or which subjects are not, you're supposed to be enjoying your orientation. But since all the practical stuff has almost been covered (unless you have any questions) we think it wouldn't hurt to give you some overview of the school subjects. You can come back to this post when your lessons officially start. :)

I'm not going to talk about the normal subjects in primary school like Math, Chinese English and all that. =/

1) History. You'll be learning about ancient civilizations, which is the red textbook, so don't bring the Singapore History one to school! History doesn't involve lots of memorizing in Sec One, you'll be exposed to source based and inferring and all that. All in all, Sec One history is bearable. And rather interesting.

2) Geography. Nothing to fear, either. Except the maps. For common tests, you are required to memorize the locations of all the different Geographic stuff, like where all the volcanoes are, where is South America, where is Africa, where is Europe, where is the Amazon River, where is the Mississippi River, where is the Huang He.............. Geography should be nice, except for a few chapters.

3) D n T. Design and Technology. Depends on how you look at it. It requires you to know how to draw isometric figures, and I tell you that's pretty hard for me, and you're supposed to invent lots of different things, measure all the stuff, and when you leave the workshop your pinafore is usually brushed with sawdust or paint.

4) Chinese Literature. This is the lesson in which you copy the notes on the slides until your hand muscles scream, for a full hour, and at the end of it all your teacher tells you the slides will be available on Edulearn and you hiss and swear and curse all the ancient Chinese characters. Seriously, nobody pays much attention in CL classes, except the really, really interested ones. For me, most of the time I can't get what my teacher's trying to tell me. But there will be a test for CL at the end of the year, but if you memorize your notes and practice writing every single paragraph, and pour them all onto the page blindly on the test, you'll score. I memorized my notes with no comprehension of whatever those famous sayings were, I just wrote them down and I got an A. :D Not to say CL is a bad subject, I mean, it's good to know about ancient Chinese culture and all that, but it's extremely boring, so pay attention as hard as you can.

5) English Literature. Now this isn't as bad as CL, but it involves lots of essay writing and inferring too. English Lit. isn't really torturous, you just need to read your book more than twice, and do the worksheets you'll be given.

6) PE. Yes, this is a subject too. There will be tests at the end of some terms, in which you'll be answering true and false questions on PE technique like what's the right method for throwing a ball called, what's the correct stance if you want to pass a ball, and all the PE terms. You'll be doing PE projects too, but those should be rather easy.

How to sleep discretely in class

Sleeping discretely in class is going to be rather easy if you get a window seat. As far away from the teacher's standing point as possible. Prop your head up with your hand and pretend you're looking at your worksheets, and just close your eyes like you're thinking abotu something. Or you can slump forward and put your head on your hands, and if somebody calls you and you wake up just in time you can say you were just resting. Of course this will all depend on the strictness of your teacher. We do not recommend sleeping in core subjects like Science, History, Geography, Math, Chinese and English. If you're really tired, catch some sleep in CME. CME is really nothing much, it's only civics and moral education. If you find that your teacher is digressing and digressing further and further away from the main topic, you might want to sleep for a while. Of course sleeping in class is a blatant sign of disrespect to the subject and its teacher, so sleep only when you absolutely have to.

Subject reps

There will be different subject representatives chosen from the start of the year. One does not have to be good in the subject one is representative of. When the teacher asks for volunteers, just raise your hand if you feel you like that subject. Nobody will know each other during the first day of school, so be sure you're going to be committed to your subject rep position and do a good job for the class. Subject reps are supposed to help their teachers with stuff, give out stuff, collect stuff and go for subject rep meetings (if there is one) Some subject reps will also be chosen to give presentations during Open House. (OH BTW DID ANYONE REMEMBER SEEING ME AT OPEN HOUSE? I WAS IN FRONT OF THE ENGLISH NOTICEBOARD GIVING PARENTS AN OVERVIEW OF SN'S ENGLISH CURRICULUM!!! HAHA TOO BAD I'M NOT GONNA TELL YOU WHICH ONE I WAS. :D)

Here's a guide for different responsibilities of the reps.

English rep: She is required to go up to the office every Monday to pick up a whole stack of Straits Times newspapers like a Garang Guni and distribute them to the class before lessons start. (The newspapers are very heavy, I tell you.) She also has the responsibility to relay all messages from the subject teacher to the rest of the class, distribute the worksheets, and collect homework. She also needs to make sure nobody hands up their work late by constantly reminding the class of their assignments. She might be chosen to present the English Curriculum to parents and daughters during Open House.

Math rep: Required to collect and give out worksheets, and to relay all messages from the subject teacher to the rest of the class, and make sure nobody hands up their work late. Might also be chosen to present the Math Curriculum to parents and daughters during Open House.

Science rep: Her task is pretty much the same as the Math Rep.

Chinese rep: Same as the Math rep.

Geography rep: Same as the Math rep.

History rep: Same as the Math rep.

PE rep: There are usually two of them. They're required to carry some of the sports equipment needed to the class, and lead warm up sessions. Constant reminders come from them to tuck in your shirt.

D n T rep: Pretty much the same as the others.

Art rep: Collect art homework, obviously. And remind the class to bring the materials for next week's art class. Another informal task is to bring extra drawing paper to lend to anyone who've forgotten to bring their own.

English Literature rep: Same as the others.

The reps' different responsibilities might differ from teacher to teacher, so these are just the basics. Being a rep means you are in charge of that subject, and you should be doing it whole heartedly.

I guess that's all for the academics. Unless you have any more questions, that is. Please shoot onto the tag board. Thanks!

Cheers,

St. Nicholas Girl (1)

CLASS ALLOCATION IS OUT.

Good morning, everyone! This is St. Nicks Girl (1) reporting from her house at 7.40 in the morning. As you can see, class allocation for Secondary One has already been uploaded on the school website. :D Check it out, wonderful people, and TELL US!! :D

I know this is a little extra, but I appear to be very hyper today. :)

Bye bye! Off I go to Choir Practice! :D

Yep - sngsgirl number 2 did this slapdash pic.
hehe.

CCA stuff

Ok, in the earlier post:
TWO ccas = ain't gonna do much good, unless you;re super dooper "solid"

Now, moving on = CCA back outs.
As in, you don't like the cca you're in/you didn't get into the cca you wanted...

To get into your cca, you must go through auditions. Then, you go online this website, as log in your choices, ranging from 1-6.. eg. 1] art club 2] choir..... yep.

BUT - the hard part comes here. Results would be released some time after, then, you'll be informed which cca you will be going to for the next 4 years..
And, some times, people get sorted out to different ccas they had put in their first choices - their 2nd choice, or their 6th choice...

It will be a disappointment, BUT = IT WILL TURN OUT A-OKAY

Some people, who would have complaints - they'll try to back out of the cca, and switch to another cca...

Not a good idea.

First, it will be REAL TOUGH STUFF to CONVINCE the PE head of the school, to let you out. She'll sit you down, and try to squeeze some sense into your head. There will be lots and lots of talking. Lots.

Usually, people, just bear with it for the first few weeks. I know, I know, it may be tough, BUT - there will always be a good side of things! And perhaps, you'll find you really have a knack for it! hehe. All's well ends well.

-Just have one lovely lovely cca, and stick to it like super glue :D

You'll meet great friends there that will share you pain and discomfort, and perhaps through the 4 years, you;ll learn new stuff and like it :D hehe, by then you'll have juniors coming in to your cca perhaps in the same situation and you can help them out :] hehe

-SNGS girl [2]
-Don't let worries drag you down, when unhappy, break into a smile =.=''
-yea, corny, i know. But, it is gonna be a nice smile :D
-rock on, people!

XUANNIE!!!!!!!!!

SNGS girl [1] got it WRONG... its much MUCH more complicated dood... ]:

-CCA
-ya cant EASILY* take up two.

-First, you've got to go to the PE Head of the school = and she's quite stern
You've got to EXPLAIN to her Why you should take up two ccas
Remember: must be a valid reason, and you HAVE to be approved by her!
She's not to be messed with, and really really - you've got to have backups
The school does not give most pupils 2 ccas - only the ones who are deemed fit to take up two..
Deemed fit = as in your academics, your strengths, why should they allow you to, why do you really need it - and so on, so forth.

-In actual fact = the school Seriously does not encourage two ccas - they'll set you down, try to talk some sense into you, and if its ok, after LOTS of talking yada yada yada... They would allow you to... perhaps. They're just worried for you! Having one cca if already tough work!

-Not many students take up two ccas, cause they'll CLASH all over, you'll get stressed, not to mention TESTS almost 2/3 times a week at times... which are OK. but, you'd really want to study..

-I'd not prefer 2 ccas, cause 1 cca would take up HUMONGOUS loads of time, even though the cca days seem few, you'll be really really amo-ed up :D

hehe
-SNGS girl [2]
-HAVE FUN IN SNGS!!!!!!!!
-going hyper-

Replies to Xuannie's tags

Yo there Xuannie. :D

Which buses will arrive at AMK interchange?

From the main bus stops nearest to the school, bus no. 268, 269 and 265 will bring you to AMK interchange. Though I've checked out the SBS bus directory for this, I'm not too sure either, so it's always good to ask the bus uncle first if you're not sure. :) Also, the bus stop outside the Ave 2 gate offers only bus service 265.

Can we take up two CCAs?

Well, technically, you can. It's allowed, but you must remember, on top of your daily load of school homework, you still need to revise for Common Tests, which are on Friday every week, and your third language, if you're taking it. Most CCA practice last for three hours at least, and by the time you reach home you'll be tired out and I tell you, sometimes you just fall onto the bed and sleep the minute you put down your bag. If you have a second CCA, divide the sole free time you have for your homework and revision by two. =/

We suggest that you don't take up a second CCA. :)

First Day of School Mini Survival Guide

Approximately five more days to the very first day of School. (in about two hours) Here's a little list of what you should be expecting on that important day.

You reach school. If you're on the bus, and you don't know where to get off, follow other blue pinafore-clad girls until you reach school. If you're not sure if they're from St. Nicks or not, check their socks and school crest.

You enter the gates, see a flurry of people around. It is still dark, and you feel lost. Firstly, secure the location of the canteen. Once you see it, go up to the Family Lounge, the place with lots of blue plastic chairs. And then look to your right. You will see the bridge linking the Primary block and the Secondary block. Walk across the slab of concrete. Upon reaching the next block, walk down two flights of staircases, and then you should be able to find your classrooms.

You walk in. You see unfamiliar faces, and everyone is in clean, starched uniforms. You feel small. You try to find an inconspicuous seat, and here we suggest that you try not to sit at the front row unless you want to get called on first for self introductions. :) Observe the whole classroom and its people. What they're doing, what's your first impression of them, and keep that in mind. A few minutes later, your PSLs walk in. They're bright and cheery and confident, and start to chat with you. Everyone in the room stays quiet, until the speaker crackles on and calls all students to the track.

You follow the PSLs, who hold up wooden signs with your class name on it. Keep your eyes on that carefully. Once on the field, you'll line up according to index number, in one straight vertical line. Take note that there might be a few grass flies flitting about, but they're harmless and you don't have to squeal and yell when one comes near you. :D

The whole Secondary One cohort will be introduced to the whole school, along with the Primary Ones. New members of the staff will be shown and acknowledged, and then the Principal and Vice Principal will send you on your way to Orientation!

Orientation will mainly be games and self intros. Remember all your observations of your classmates, and now try to see if your first impressions are right. Try and be friends with people whom you think you might get along with. She might very well be your next best friend! Though there isn't much hope of gaining a best friend on the first day of school, you should still try. :D

During recess, have a good time! Try to sit with people in your own class, and if you find that you haven't found anybody to sit with yet, go sit by yourself, it's okay. Eat to your fill, because you probably will be galloping around after recess with your PSLs. :D

There might be important announcements your form teacher might make. Bring along a small notebook with you, and jot those down.

School's over. You suddenly find yourself lost and struggles to find the gate you used to enter the school. Do not try to follow a fellow Sec One, because she's most probably lost too. Try asking for directions, or following where the main stream of other girls go with their bags. If you're really lost, try looking for the canteen or the field. These are BIG BIG venues, so you can't miss it. Street 13 gate is nearer to the canteen, and Ave 2 gate is nearer to the field.

And wah la, you've survived your first day in SNGS. :D

This is just a rough guide of what's going to happen. We're not sure if it'll really happen to you, we're sketching it based on our own experience. Have fun, anyway. :)

Questions or opinoins to the tag board! :)

May peace live in your heart,

St. Nicks Girl (1)

UGGSS goes Live!: Changes

During our recent MSN exchanges with the juniors who added us, we've realized that having only one UGGSS MSN account confuses things. Therefore, we have created separate accounts for each Guide Writer. Please add both of us!

St. Nicks Girl (1) : stnicksgirl1@hotmail.com

St. Nicks Girl (2) : stnicksgirl2@hotmail.com

As for our current account, (stnicksgirls@hotmail.com) you can send lengthy emails to us and we'll read it. It's for people who do not prefer chatting to us live. :)

Thanks.

Keep well,

St Nicks Girl (1)

5 main places to hang out during recess

Apologies for the delay in posting, but the Guide Writers have had a rather busy past three days. The MSN account is up and running, so feel free to add us.

First day of school's looming ahead in six days. What happens during recess?

You're lonely. People around you are forming their own groups of friends, but you haven't found yours yet. What do you do? Well. Whoever said recess was meant to be a group activity, anyway? You can go solo.

Five main places to hang out during recess

1) Obviously, the canteen. Tables are usually quite clean, and if you wanna avoid being in the middle of the crowd, sit to the side of the tables and quietly eat your food. The canteen is huge, and erupts in explosive bursts of pandemonium, so it's a great place to observe people and overhear some stuff.

2) Roof garden. Located high up in the school, the roof garden hosts several stone benches for us to sit on. Leaning against the railings you'll be overlooking the other bungalows and perhaps spy on the people living in them. The wind blows pretty much up there, and it's a great place to sort things out.

3) Spectators' stand. There are two spectators' stands in St. Nicks. The view is pretty nice on the seats too, especially if it's a clear day, with the grass on the field all sun drenched, the girls swatting baseball bats towards the white darting balls. Now all you need is a nice, thick book to go with the scenery.

4) Turtle pond. The turtle pond is located in a rather deserted area in St. Nicks. Basically, it's behind the Sec Ones' classrooms. To reach there, you can walk down the slope from the primary kids' playground, all the way down until you pass the classrooms. The turtle pond will be in sight sooner or later. There're lots of turtles in the greenish murky water. Have fun playing with them!

5) Primary kids' playground. Located just in front of the hall, the playground is actually meant for the primary section's use only. However lots of new Secondary girls visit it and play games like Marco Polo and Crocodile. Be careful, though. Right in front of the playground are the primary kids' classrooms, and your delighted screams while playing might very well disrupt their lessons. So avoid the screaming, and play safely! :)

Ok. That's the five places that we promised. As usual, any questions or opinions, hurl it onto the tag board. :)

Keep well.

Replies to Louisa's tags

Greetings!! I'm so glad you came to UGGSS! But that's weird though. I (St. Nicks Girl (1) ) was the one who went around tagging all the junior's blogs, but I didn't think I bookmarked your blog, so can you leave your URL behind next time you tag? :D Thanks!!! AND HAHA, THANK YOU FOR SAYING OUR TIPS HELPED! WE'LL POST MORE TIPS, I promise. :) Remember what I said about not letting the blog die? :) Louisa: You make us feel extremely nice and fuggly inside. :D

LOL! St. Nicks Girl 2 has replied to your posts, but I'm here to contradict her! (To st nicks girl 2: nooo you doo doo! :D) That doesn't mean the Guide isn't reliable though! It's just that St. Nicks Girl 2 isn't feeling well today, she's a bit zonked out. So. :)

1) Non-school shoes for Camp?

As I've established before, non-school shoes are totally not compulsory! :D It's just my own suggestion, because it might get dirty. If you're gonna bring non-school shoes though (extremely wise decision!) it'll be best if it's white. Cos from what I've been told, your Sec One Orientation camp starts on the 9th of January, right? 9th January is a Friday, also an official school day, so I suggest you wear your old primary school shoes, or sports shoes that're white. (But don't bring too expensive ones, though! It might return from camp ruined!) O_O

2) CHOIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!! :D YES YES YES GO TRY OUT FOR CHOIR YOU FANTASTIC GIRL. You'll get in if you can sing in tune, and it'll be nice if you know a little basic music, though it is definitely not a must for you to know music beforehand. :D Choir auditions aren't THAT scary!

Choir auditions go like this: You wait outside the music room, when it's your turn you'll probably need to fill up this form asking you if you have previous experience, or which school you hail from. Then you go inside the room, the other auditionees will be outside, so you won't have an audience. Our choir mistress or assistant choir mistress will be at the piano and she'll ask you to sing the notes she play on the piano. There might be a few older girls in the room too to help with the note filling and everything, but you don't need to bother about them. If you pass the singing audition, you'll be led to the interview room where you'll be interviewed about why you want to join Choir and all that. :D GO JOIN CHOIR, LOUISA!!! I'LL BE THERE WAITIN' FOR YA! :D

3) How often do we update UGGSS?

We try to update everyday, so keep checking back for more tips. We haven't updated for two days cos it's the Christmas season. We might run out of things to tell you about, so if you ever feel a doubt about anything, shoot onto the tag board! I've been spending time on the Guide a lot, reply should be prompt. :D :D :D

YESS! I'm so glad UGGSS has influenced yet another junior!!! I'm ecstatic you accepted our help, and trust us, we shall help you to the best of our abilities!!! :D

Try to pass this Guide on to other St. Nicks juniors you know, so we can help more people!! :D THANKS FOR SPREADING THE WORD!!!

WELCOME TO THE ULTIMATE GENUINE GUIDE TO SURVIVING SNGS, AND ST. NICKS, TOO!!!

May the stars watch over you,

PS: Once you know your classes on the 29th December, tell us, ok??? :D :D

PPS: Did you read the Guide from start to finish? If you haven't there's more in the archives! The archives are on the right! :D

The Ultimate Genuine Guide to Surviving SNGS goes Live!

Ah, I am extremely pleased to announce the creation of this young blog's MSN account. Future St. Nicks juniors, feel free to add us!

stnicksgirls@hotmail.com

May Santa come in safely through the chimney,

St Nicks Girl (1) :D

ICY TOWER

ICY TOWER = highly recommended game

though its a simple concept of jumping up cliffs and not falling down = it rocks
its the perfect passtime for dnt com lessons and well... all com-involved lessons

-you juniors can google it!

-st.nick's senior [2]
-and er.. my posts are gonna be like small little tags.. for the time being. St.nicks senior[1] is poking me on msn now.. so.. GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR!

Icy Towers and other things.

[edits to the my previous post on Xuennie's tags]

LOL! I didn't know my buddy was online at the same time as me, so we answered your questions TWICE! :D OMG I realize our views contradict each other!!

1) I think both of our views about school shoes not getting dirty/will get dirty are ok...depends on the EXTENT of the damage! :D Yeah like my buddy said. Full blast water and canon balls of detergent.

2) I TOTALLY FORGOT TO TELL YOU GUYS ABOUT ICY TOWERS!!! It's a St. Nicks traditional computer game that can mysteriously be found on any computer in school. (D n T computer labs, Language Computer labs, library etc.) Buddy's right again. ICY TOWERS is playable in small windows that can be minimized when a teacher looks over. It's an extremely boliao game in which you navigate only with the arrow keys and make your character jump up. That's the only aim of the game, no monsters, no powers. Just jumping and jumping and jumping and the screen keeps moving upwards so if you don't jump before the screen touches you, or you didn't manage to reach the next ledge to jump onto, game's over. :D It's strangely addictive... O_O Extremely perfect for boring D n T lessons.

Caution, though. Icy Towers will probably make your whole computer lag. When it lags, you won't be able to shut down the whole game when the teacher walks over. So once you sense it lagging, attempt to shut the game immediately before it's too late. :D

3) Oh yes, all St. Nicks computers have different wacky wallpapers...

4) And yeah, it's the socks that matter...

:D

PLACES TO EAT IN ST.NICKS

It seems me pal number 1 has gave many tips -hehe shall elaborate more on this
-----

SPECS STAND -
yep, as said by mrs goh [quote] you can eat in the specs stand!
specs stand = these series of really long flights of steps-seats!
Ice cream and stuff are OK
many seniors eat ORANGE BOWL there BUT = strongly discouraged cause the poor Orange bowl uncle had to walk a LONG way to the specs stand to COLLECT bowls which irresponsible people have left behind.
BE PREPARED to carry your empty bowls back to the canteen.
Seriously = Just don't eat bowl-plate-stuff there. Finger food that come in packets are fine cus you can throw them away in the plentiful rubbish bins in the surrounding area = OR just hold it in your hand when you walk back to class and throw it in the huge dustbin by the toilets!
[the sec 1 area has 2 huge toilets, you'll be bathing there in camp!]

Yep.. this is a short post!
Sorry, my dear mei mei men, its just that its the Christmas season and i'm doing all the deco round the house [art club person..] thus, i've been spending all possible free minutes doing the deco.. havent really been paying much attention to this blog :(
I'LL BE DOING MY BEST!!!!!!!
[sucks in a deep breath of air, cheeks almost bursting, eyes squinting, nose crinkling, opens mouth of air to shout...]

JIA YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-st.nicks senior [2]
-just love ya all!

Reply to Xuennie's taggies!!!

WOWEE! Finally. We have our very first flurry of questions, and I hate squeezing all I wanna say into the taggy's typing space, so I've decided all future replies to major questions of the tagboard should be posted here!

*Xuennie, you have no idea how much I wanna hug you for asking questions. :D :D :D*

1) My tips rock?! Really?????? OMG THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE SHOULD GIVE YOU AN AWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (now as you see the amount of exclaimnation marks will definitely take up valuable tag board typing space)

2) Of course you can ask if the computers can be used for leisure stuff. :D So far, nobody has said anything about doing non-homework stuff on the computers, though there's only one adult in charge of the library and the rest are students, and even then they don't actually come and look over your shoulders to see what you're doing. I think it's absolutely ok not to do homeworks and projects on the com. (I have witnessed girls watching anime on Youtube and looking for free piano sheet music online and they got out of the library alive) But since the computers are in the open space for all to see, it's better not to play games in case the librarian looks over. Most of the time there won't be a shortage of computers, but when you realize there's quite a crowd waiting to use the coms for real project work then duh, of course you give up your computer for them (if you're doing something absolutely non-school). :D :D :D

3) Boy, your primary school is cool. My primary school didn't even have anything like that. But FUN AND GAMES EVERY FRIDAY IS DEFINITELY NOT like morning jogs!! O_O I don't see any fun in morning jogs at all... T_T (nor climbing four flights of stairs three times... ) :(

4) No lah, I didn't say MUST wear something temporary. From my opinion solely. Naturally during campfire there might be mud and everything and you'll be wearing your school shoes (if I'm not wrong) onto the field, and then when you get onto the mats laid out over the grass, you're supposed to take off your shoes, and it's very dark, and people get really excited, so your shoes might get trampled over. :( That's what happened to MY shoes... :( Trampled over=mud stained. Of course you can wash it off but it might take time to dry and besides, there might be some permanent stains...and won't you get heart broken if your NEW WHITE SHOES gets mud all over and become brownish after the camp!!???!! (BOOHOOOO MY SHOES!!! ): ): )

5) OMG YOU MUST TELL ME WHICH CLASS YOU GO TO. Then I'll come hunt you down!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then finally, I will be able to strip the mask of elusiveness off my face.

Your wonderful Guide Writer,

St. Nicholas Girl (1)

*but I'm also very curious leh. What kind of impression do you have of me and st nicks girl 2? Like appearance and stuff. See if you guess right or not. :D :D :D

NEXT CHAPTER OF THE ULTIMATE GENUINE GUIDE TO SURVIVING SNGS IS COMING OUT. SOON. VERY SOON. :D :D :D

A very short tip on the very long Morning Jog

When all the fun from the camp is over, and the lessons start, so will Morning Jog. *shudders*

In St. Nicks, all four levels will have morning jogs, albeit on different days. Morning Jog is a weekly ritual, in which the whole cohort runs together on the track right after morning assembly. Three rounds around the track. If it's raining, the whole cohort will run up all four flights of stairs at the extension block.

1) No matter what you do, do not, or try not to stop jogging. If you do, the PE teachers watching from the spectators' stand will get mad and start yelling. If too many people stop jogging, the whole cohort will be made to run again.

2) Treat the jog seriously. Do not run holding hands, giggling, or talking. The teachers can see. And if they get mad, you'll all get a huge lecture after wards.

3) Don't sprint when you start the jog. It'll wear you out. Run really, really slowly at first, without stopping, then towards the end of the last round, sprint towards the end of torture.

4) Bring water on morning jog days. You'll need it! O_O

5) Even though it sounds really brutal, don't hate anyone for it, because what the PE teachers want is to make us fit and healthy. :D You might even learn to like it! (Like me. It feels so great when you cross that line and you can finally stop running and you look at everyone behind you, and you think, I ran three rounds without stopping.)

Told ya it was a short tip! :D

May the wind rise under your wings!

Ah, big big St. Nicks

I am back again. Boy, I'm dedicating more time to this blog than my own blog! Wrapped most of my books next year in plastic this morning, took me three tries to perfect book-wrapping, then I still had to get down to reading (browsing) a few chapters of History, Geography and one miserable chapter of Science. (Acids and Alkali.) Thus explains my tardy appearance on cyberspace this day.

Venues of St. Nicks

I'm gonna outline most of the places in School.

1) Classroom. Some classrooms are smaller/bigger than the others, but it's gonna be your home for one year, so treasure it. St. Nicks has green boards instead of white boards in some rooms, so you don't use regular markers on green boards. You will be supplied with special green board markers, and every time the ink runs out (say, three to four days), somebody will have to bring it up to the office to get refills. Green board markers tend to leak when you hold it the wrong way, and is oily to the touch, so try not to wipe the green board with your bare hands. Green board marker ink, when left on the green board for long, tends to stay there forever. So make sure somebody wipes it with a piece of WET cloth (dry ones won't work) at the end of the day. :D

Your personal desk is made of gray plastic. If you are ever sorted into One Truth (that was our class), you'll find that most of the desks have been vandalized on with personal doodles and "Whoever was here at 9 am"s. I have never vandalized a single desk in all six years of Primary school, but once the St. Nicks madness set in on me, I vandalized CASUALLY, only if I feel particularly distressed, and write random stuff on it in extremely light pen ink. :D If you happen to get a heavily vandalized desk, you can spend hours poring over it looking at past vandalisms. Your tiny little desk space beneath your desk is made to hold all sorts of rubbish and textbooks. Generally, you can leave your D n T textbook and sketchbook, History textbook, Geography textbook, pieces of scrap paper and newspapers. (you will be issued an issue of Straits Times every Monday, which will be used during your English lessons.)

Try to tidy up your desk every few weeks, because some pieces of important paper might get crumpled or torn in the mess, and you'll have difficulty finding the things you need. When you have homework that requires a particular textbook, always write a note in your diary reminding yourself to bring it home, or else you'll have big trouble when you find that you left the text in class. Especially maths. You'll be using your Maths textbook for most of your homework.

As for those heavy bulky files, it's best to transfer them to school one by one, then put them on the floor vertically, leaning against your desk leg. Make sure you don't step on it, though. If you're going to put stuff in the lockers behind your class, be prepared for dirty cubicles (spider webs, mysterious droppings of some insect etc. But don't get grossed out!) It also doesn't have a reliable lock system, so you'll have to bring your own lock. :D

You're allowed to stay in the classrooms even after school's over, you can skip lunch, do anything. (I love skipping lunch and doing my homework/reading in class. It was pretty anti-social, but it's much more productive that way. :D) But all classrooms will be locked at 4.30, so you've got to leave before then.

Eating in class. Basically, eating is prohibited in everywhere except the canteen. But we cannot find the time to sit down and eat a proper meal when we have a project due in two hours' time. (last minute work ;) ) So the trick to eating in class is, buy hand food (etc. burgers or bread from the Toast Stall) and sneak them into class. Try not to eat in full view of everyone. Hide behind a wall or sit down inconspicuosly at your desk. Getting caught by a teacher or the vice principal herself (We all love Ms. Goh. She takes daily walks around the school observing lessons and even during recess time. She's a really good vice principal) is bad trouble. So, unless you can't help it, always eat in the canteen. Besides, you don't want to dirty your classroom, do ya?

2) Toilets. There are toilets everywhere in St. Nicks, but there aren't a lot of male toilets. Toilets in the Secondary block will be locked shortly after lessons end. The canteen toilet isn't exactly the cleanest toilet in the school. If you want a clean toilet, try the Gym toilet. (The gym is at the top level of the school, one level above the canteen.)

3) Canteen. I don't know about you, but the canteen in my primary school was located on the ground floor. The canteen of St. Nicks, however, is rather high up. If you stand at the railings, you'll be overlooking the St. Nicks field, and feel the warm morning breeze against your face, watch the older girls' PE lessons going on as you slowly lick your ice cream. The whole canteen is also decorated with oriental tiles, and overhanging some parts of it are entwined dried flowers. It's very kitchenly and homely. :D On Monday to Thursday, Sec Ones and Sec Twos will have the earlier recess period. Sec Threes and Fours will be slotted into the later one. On Fridays, the whole Secondary cohort will have recess together, and the usual 45 minutes for recess will be lengthened to one hour. So we'll have one hour recess on Fridays. :D But there usually aren't a lot of seats in the Canteen on Friday, so sometimes you'll have to resort to eating standing up. (That's really the worst extreme, but I've done it around twice. :D)

4) Library. Ah, silence. To borrow books in St. Nicks, you have to produce your Ez-link card. We aren't supposed to use the book drop unless the library is closed or it's during the holidays, so you have to give your book to the student in charge of the library counter. (Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, Library is a CCA too.) For every day you're late returning a book, the library charges ten cents. So five days late=50 cents. There're also tables in the library for us to study and stuff, but there's one corner with a long, glass table with cushioned seats. That's the TEACHER'S CORNER. Do not ever sit there. I was studying by myself during the second month of school, I think, and then this teacher came up to me and said "Excuse me, this is the teacher's corner." I was darn humiliated, packed up and decided never to study in the library again. Computers are open for all to use, just sign yourself in at the library counter and you're good to go.

I find that there aren't any more places with rules, spoken or unspoken, left to talk about, save for the various labs and studios, but you'll be briefed on them more aptly by your subject teachers...We should move on.

As always, any queries or opinions, shoot our dear taggy. If you wanna know more about various venues in St. Nicks, just ask. :D

Cheers!

Heartened, and more advice

I just experienced what it feels like to be thanked for doing something completely weird. I never imagined myself dedicating the last ten days before School reopens to this junior helping blog. Rest assured, I will not let it die, until all of you are acquainted with how St. Nicholas works, I will not let it die. Thanks for passing the word down, and I am now fully geared up for more advice-giving! I am writing at 12.13 am now because I need to do lots of productive work tomorrow. (to make up for all the time I've spent setting up the blog and finding other juniors) Up until now, none of the juniors I've sent the link to has replied, except for Xuannie...that's why I'm so happy!!

1) Secondary One Orientation Camp

By the end of next year, this camp will seem like nothing but pieces of shredded memory, most of the time, friends who strike you as your type will definitely not be your buddy by the time you finish Sec 1. But enjoy the fun while it lasts.

I don't even see why we need to touch on it, but I'm just doing it for fun. Camp will be like any other camps. There will be games within your classes, and you'll be led by your PSLs. I recall some of the games we played were entirely suggested on the spot by the PSLs, like lame hand clapping games. The real fun starts when we all get together to compete with other classes to finish this series of different games (you go to different stations in different venus, it's to let you get acquainted with the school's places, and do different tasks like drinking watermelon juice straight from the fruit) At the end of it all, you get chips and sodas. :)

At the same time, each class is required to make a class flag, make up a class cheer and song. On Campfire day, each class will go up there to perform, and at the end of it each class will get a different prize. (Like most enthusiastic class, best performance class). Chips are also the prizes. During campfire the NPCC and Girl Guides will use this chance to advertise themselves. At the end of it all you will get to eat Tang Yuan (you know, the round flour doughs that's sweet and nice served in sugary soup?) in the Canteen. It tastes pretty good. It's to symbolise Yuan Man, or something like that. Unity with St. Nicks.

That's the general gist of it. After that you'll be led around for CCA fair. The sports cca will invite you to try out, the performing arts group will stage a performance for you, clubs and societies will do a presentation or something, uniformed groups will display their life saving skills or fire building skills for you. :) At the end of it all you're supposed to get a better idea of which CCA you want to join (CHOIR CHOIR CHOIR!!! ART CLUB ART CLUB ART CLUB!!!). Then you'll have to post your CCA options by a certain date. Like your secondary school choices, you'll most likely be accepted into a CCA if that's your first choice.

*Note that it's best to sneak some none school socks into your camp bag, because during the campfire, you will be tramping around on the field in your socks. That tramp on the grass will stain your socks with brownish smudges forever. :D Don't wear your real school shoes too. Wear something temporary just for the camp.*

I think that's about all for Sec 1 Orientation...there isn't really much to talk about anyway. But if you've got any questions, shoot our taggy. :D And tell us what you really want to hear from The UGGSS (Ultimate Genuine Guide to Surviving SNGS), before we run out of ideas. Ask about anything. :D

Keep well,

St. Nicks Girl (1)

Good heavens, no!

For all those that doubt our true existence, we aren't robots! *gasp* Robots do not know anything about St. Nicks Orange Bowl! :)

And to slake that curiosity among you guys on how we managed to track down all your blogs, here's how:

1) I went on to Google.

2) I typed in "CHIJ St. Nicks, Sec 1 Orientation, Sec 1 Registration, I got into St Nicks!! Cut off point for St. Nicks".

3) Random links pop up and I scroll leisurely through pages and pages of Google search results until I find the junior to extend this Ultimate Genuine Guide to.

It was fun. :) I feel extremely happy and victorious when I chance upon a blog that reports on how her Secondary One registration day in St. Nicks went.

Boy, I wish I had some senior who spammed MY blog telling me about how she'd created this guide to teach me how to survive in St. Nicks! But then, I didn't even blog about my PSLE results nor anything about getting into St. Nicks. Sigh. :)

So far, only one person has tagged. (THANK YOU!) If you can, pass this guide's link on to as many fellow St. Nicholas Sec One 2009 juniors as you can! :)

Fare thee well,

St Nicks Senior (1)

PS: Oh yeah, for all future taggers, it'll be nice if you tell us a little about yourself. (like which class you belong to and how you got to this blog. :) ) We'll be replying all further tags on the Guide's tagboard in case somebody else asks the same question as you. :)

Choices

Your Guide Writer is feeling down today, so pardon the miserable tone of speech. For those who're going for the Music Elective Program, I shall just briefly touch on it, cos I'm not in THAT program. And your CCA choices too, and how to survive Sec One Orientation. (You won't need to know HOW to survive, cos our PSLs will lead you through. Just tellin' ya WHAT to expect.)

1) MEP

There arent' a lot to tell you, except when you're sorted into MEP, you'll be in the MEP class, which means all your classmates are musical. You will have special MEP lessons, and are expected to be more musical than anyone else. You must also learn a second instrument (like voice, guitar etc.) And during Drama lessons, for certain assignments, you might be required to compose a song and dramatise it. That's about all.

2) DEP

Drama Elective Program. For the whole Secondary One cohort, you'll be having Drama lessons from Term 2 onwards. Drama is really, really, really, really, really, really, fantasically, brilliantly fun. It's so mind boggling you leave the Drama studio wanting more. You're supposed to do a Drama practical assignment, in which you act out either a poem or a monologue or a mini-play (depending on what the teacher wants you to do), and then you'll be graded for that, along with your Drama reflections. Though it won't affect your overall percentage (it's just an A, B, C etc. grade), it does determine whether you'll be sorted into DEP or not. At the end of the year, all three drama teachers will choose twenty-four girls from the cohort and invite them to join DEP, in which they will take Drama as an O level subject. Yep. Your Guide Writers here have not started their official DEP lessons yet, cos it'll only start NEXT YEAR, so we can't really tell you what DEP's lessons will be like.

3) CCA options. It's probably too early to tell you about CCAs, but I'm saying these now so when School reopens and the flood gates of homework open with a dolorous cacophony, I will not need to squeeze out time for this blog. There are, as all of you know, four types of CCA. Uniform groups, Performing Arts, Sports and Clubs and Societies.

I shall not touch on ALL of them in specific detail, lest I offend their members. All these are told from an outsider's point of view (except Choir, which is MY CCA. Ah ha, that's another clue HAHAHAHAHA)

First off: Uniform groups. They all seem to work really, really hard in the hot sun. They require lots of discipline, and drills and involves running around the track a few times before starting on whatever activities they have. I'd say it's a pretty torturous CCA, cos I'm not the sports person, but if YOU LIKE TEAMWORK, STRENGTH, DISCIPLINE AND LOTS OF TRUSTY FRIENDS, I think you should try going for their interviews. I'm not saying Uniform groups are bad here! Just that...it'll require lots of hard work and training.

Performing Arts. Some of them require certain musicality and prefer previous experience. The Chinese Orchestra has lots of different interesting instruments, but for those who're learning the instruments for the first time, they'll need to practice extra hard. Same for Symphonic Band. They practice three times a week, and Sec Ones train extra hard. Band also has marching drills and stuff, and require lots of breath power cos you need to blow really hard into some of the instruments to make sound emerge. I don't know a single thing about Dance, because I have never encountered a Dance person before, so I shall not touch on it. String Orchestra is tough. You have to be able to secure a high grade in either Piano or any sort of string instrument (Grade six and above, I heard), and I hear the chances of them accepting you will be higher if you're in MEP. S.O is a very MEP CCA.

ELDDS. It is usually a much sought after CCA because their advertising skills are sublime. On CCA orientation day they'll be flaunting around the school in bombastic costumes and masks, screaming come join ELDDS. English Literary Debate and Drama Society, if I'm not wrong. Though I'm sure I'm wrong, cos it doesn't sound right. But anyway, during their auditions, they'll test you for your Dramatising skills, and then your Debate. (Oh btw, DEP doesn't only select people from the Drama wing in ELDDS. For example, I'm from Choir and my buddy's from Art club.) According to my LD classmates, ELDDS rocks. GO try it out yourself.

Choir. Even if I say so myself, Choir is a rather sought after CCA too! But the choir mistress only selects about 20 girls every year, but that DOES NOT MEAN YOU DO NOT TRY. It's good if you originate from a choir in primary school, or at least have some choral singing experience. Knowing how to stand properly and breath with your diaphragm is good too. During the audition, the choir mistress generally tests you for your pitching skills. (to see if you're tone-deaf or not) She'll play a few arpeggios for you, just sing it. If she thinks you're ok, you'll be shown to the interview room where they'll ask you questions about why you want to join choir or blah blah blah. Choir training is normally at least three hours, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we practice really hard for all our songs. You might find it really hard to cope at first, you might fall asleep or become outraged at our choir mistress's rain of scoldings and insults, but in the end when all of us harmonise together in all our four parts (soprano one, soprano two, alto one, alto two) you'll be glad you came to St. Nicks. In the 2007 SYF, Choir attained Gold with Honours, and two weeks ago, we went to Vienna and Bratislava to compete in the III International Festival of Advent and Christmas music and came back with a Gold award, 95.16 points upon 100, and topped the children's category. (Besides, if you join, you'll be able to meet me! :) )

Clubs and societies. These groups are generally less competitive than the others, but they compete all the same. There's the Chinese version of ELDDS there, and I hear they're pretty slack but extremely fun and worthwhile. Art club is for artists solely and only. When my bestie comes to post, she'll tell you about it. I don't really know much about other CCAs, but if you want to know something in particular, I can always go check it out for ya. Though you'll probably learn everything you need during CCA orientation day.

Sports. They all train really hard, and like I said, I'm not a sports person. But team spirit is strong in all sports, St. Nicks coaches are extremely good, and if you don't mind training your guts out, go for it.

All our groups are great in their performances in competitions and sports meets. All the Golds, Gold with Honours, firsts, seconds, thirds, they all come from the CCAs. :)

I got really tired typing all these. I shall return later if I can. (Though I may be a Guide Writer, I'm still a student, you know. One needs to prepare for the rocky year ahead.)

Keep well,

St. Nicks Girl (1)

Basics

Ok. You've just finished with all the speeches by the principals and other teaching staff, is feeling relatively excited for Sec 1 Orientation Camp and starting lessons. But basics never fail to amaze. Here's the usual nitty gritty stuff...

1) Uniform.

The uniform of St. Nicks is

1) Almost identical to all IJ schools
2) Extremely cool.

All CHIJ schools have the same dark blue pinafore and white blouse, so if you ever spot a girl wearing uniform like yours, she may or may not be a fellow St. Nicks girl. It has some catches, though. When wearing your uniform, always pull the blouse down, straighten it at the back, and check occasionally in School that the back's not crumpled up. When you raise your hands or bend down, the blouse will get pulled up, and will thus...rumple up. It looks really weird from the back, so, always check! (refer to the following paragraph on how to unrumple your blouse)

Shorts. It is highly advisable for you to wear shorts underneath. It doesn't have to be School PE shorts. Home shorts will do. When overexcited, you'll find yourself in circumstances where your skirt will fly up or a certain sitting position will reveal the colour of your _____ to everyone. Shorts. The best choice. And it makes pulling down your blouse easier too! Just lift up your pinafore, reach for your blouse and tug it down.

Don't buy pinafores too long either! If it's too long, the belt will seem really really high, and that makes you look...weird, too! If you have a problem with high belts, try pushing the belt down a little. Don't detach the belt completely from the waist, though. It's against the school rules and won't look good on you! :)

Collar button. It comes unbuttoned if you're not careful, so always button it. Besides, if you don't, and it opens wider, people will be able to see your bra. O_O And don't purposely unbutton! Dood, like low belts, unbuttoned collars are a no-no! :) (Yes, you won't look good in it too.)

For those whose primary school uniforms are not pinafores, better be warned. Do not attempt to put more than your wallet and handphone in our enormously large pinafore pockets! If it's too heavy, the whole pinafore will just slant to one side. It looks really...ah...bad. For recess, a wallet should be sufficient. Leave the phones in class.

School socks. Ah. It is in the student diary that the initials SNG must be clearly seen above the shoe. So you either 1) Buy low cut shoes or 2) Buy higher socks instead of the normal ankle SNG socks. When the counsellors arrive to do the daily discipline morning check, if you don't wanna be pointed out, just pull up your socks. (literally) You won't get booked for low socks, but it doesn't feel nice when you're tapped on your shoulder every morning to pull 'em up.

Name tags. Hm, for Sec Ones, you usually won't get your real name badges until after a while, so you'll be using the transparent plastic name tag thing. We all hated it, and took it off immediately after school was let out. (As a result, I crushed mine on the bus cos I sat on it accidentally, but you really don't need to know about that). So, if you don't want to look obiang and weird, just take it out, but REMEMBER TO WEAR THEM THE NEXT DAY, DURING MORNING ASSEMBLY. Cos if you don't, you'll need to buy a new one for one dollar.

PE attire. You don't really have to tuck in your PE attire, only during PE lessons, when the teachers are screaming at everyone to tuck in. If you're wearing them before PE, you can tuck them out. (Even though it's against the rules and everything, but, hey, that's just a minor offense compared to letting everyone see your bra cos of an unbuttoned collar!)

*btw, we think it is rather unfair for the PE uniform to be scorned upon just cos it's white and plain. I mean, how many white and plain PE uniforms can you find nowadays without a corny House name and stained with all sorts of different House colours? St. Nicks PE attire looks great. You'll learn to like it. Plus, that School crest at the front is blazing and bursting forth from the white cotton material, it's so magnificent, you want to keep looking at it.*

2) Getting around the School

St. Nicks is...rather confusing in its layout. To go up, you have to come down first. It'll take you some time to figure out the short cuts, it took me months, so don't worry. Just keep clinging on to your PSLs, and if you're lost, try looking for the field, cos it's big, green, and you can't miss it. And directly behind the fields are your classrooms. :)

3) Canteen food

We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Orange Bowl. It's the first stall from the left, and it's easy to spot cos the line is always the longest there. It's a St. Nicks tradition. My sister graduated from there eleven years ago and still knows about it. Do not request chilli if you're not the chilli person, cos Orange Bowl chilli is rather strong. But since it's always such a long que, me and my buddy don't usually eat Orange Bowl. We head to the back of the canteen, where there is another row of stalls, and go for the GREEN COLOURED PLATES stall. They sell the best chicken rice there, and their chilli goes just right with a cup of iced milo/tea/ice lemon tea from the drink stall. The WESTERN FOOD STALL is alright too, located just beside the Green Plates Stall. The writer and her buddy gorge on their unhealthy fried rice and pizza and coleshaw when we're feeling pretty stressed out from the morning lessons. Trust me, Western Food is great if you feel you need some supplement support.

Stalls to avoid: We don't want to make any of our kind canteen stall holders lose their business, so we're not mentioning any names. Just look out for those stalls that generally doesn't have a lot of que, but I'd say go try their food anyway. They might be to your liking, after all.

And, oh yes, all St. Nicks staff, non-teaching or not, are friendly and kind and loving. The aunties and uncles all treat the girls as people they must protect and care for, likewise to the canteen staff. Their food might not be satisfactory, but boy, they deserve the Gems award. Do not bully them and treat them disrespectfully, saying thank you after they give you your change doesn't hurt, and if an uncle takes the plate from you to put inside his dish trolley for washing, say thanks too. Smile. And when putting your plates back into the dish bins, put down gently, we don't want any broken plates in St. Nicks.

As mentioned above, there are Dish Bins for us to put our plates back into after we finish eating. The stalls at the front of the canteen have their bins located on the right, and if you bought food from the stalls at the back of the canteen, (if you face the back of the canteen) their bins will be on your left. All drink cups should be returned to the Drinks Stall. They have their Cup Bin there.

4) Weather

When it rains during School, the long, unsheltered bridge linking the Primary block and the Secondary block will be closed. Just go down one level of stairs and then you'll be able to cross towards the other side, sheltered. Always keep an umbrella in your bag, because there isn't any shelter sheltering all St. Nicholas exits. (not that I know of.) Definitely not the main ones like the Street 13 gate (which is the long stretch of gravel leading out from the Father Barre security desk), and the Avenue 2 gate (which is the gate leading out from the field)

5) If you happen to be sorted into one of the classes whose back doors face out to this glorious, steep slope of grass, you'll find out that if you just climb very cautiously all the way up the very steep slope, it'll grant you immediate access to the canteen. But, I caution, never, ever attempt to climb up the slope after rainy days. You will never make it up without slipping and getting mud all over your white school shoes. My buddy herself experienced this when she attempted to run down from the top of the slop, and ended up slipping on a mud patch. (to my buddy: ;) ) So, it's dangerous. And, in front of the hall, with the primary kids' playground, there's a rather steep green slope too. Running down from it is tempting, but inertia builds up and you might crash into a wall, or have your feet slap into a puddle of concealed mud water. Be safe. Take the stairs like everyone else does. :)

And oh, there might be snails on the green grass slopes after rainy days, you wouldn't want to step on one!

Alright then. These are just the basics. I'll come up with more when I can think of it. Like how you might want to avoid sweating too much before mid-morning lessons start. Cos you won't be able to concentrate. :) And how to sleep discretely in class!! :)

May the wind rise under your wings,

St Nicks Girl (1)

A brief Introduction

Hello. We shall choose to offer our help in anonymosity, though that doesn't really stop us from being your Guide Writers though! :) First off.

1) This guide is meant for your reference only, we are not coercing you to do the things we advice you to.

2) All opinions expressed here are genuinely, and only, ours. (Of course!) St. Nicks is a huge, grand, magnificent and brilliant educational institute, but there are certain stuff in it that aren't really THAT great, and we're here to tell you about it. It's really up to you to believe us or not, but as we emphasize___

3) THIS GUIDE IS ULTIMATELY GENUINE! :D Which means, already established before, this guide consist only of our honest opinions and advice, most of the stuff we say we've experienced them before. :)

Alright! Formalities done away with, let's get started.

We are two buddies, who met in Secondary One, and going on to the same class next year. Secretly, we're all rather afraid we'll get into some kind of trouble for this, but as we stress, we do not intend to create any trouble at all and are merely trying to offer a little kindness to our juniors! (regardless of whether they need it or not, we just don't want history to repeat itself) So...listen if you can, take it all with a pinch of salt! :) And___
